Back Glow Aftercare: What to Do in the First 72 Hours
By Spa Apsara | October 26, 2026
Fircrest, WA | $96.25 Back Glow
The biggest rule after your Back Glow is simple: for the first 48 to 72 hours, keep heat, heavy sweat, and anything scratchy off your back. This treatment includes dry brushing, a sugar scrub, hot towels, a minty mask, shea butter, and massage, so your skin is freshly exfoliated and more reactive than usual right after we finish. In Fircrest, that often means being smart about steamy showers and damp layers during our cool, wet season.
Your first 24 to 48 hours after Back Glow: keep it cool, clean, and hands-off
Right after your Back Glow, I want you thinking in two buckets: irritation and bacteria. Exfoliated skin plus heat and sweat is usually where people get bumps, redness that lingers, or that itchy feeling that makes you want to scrub again. Don’t.
Quick checklist for today and tomorrow: Keep showers lukewarm, skip saunas and hot tubs, avoid hard workouts, and don’t use active exfoliants on the area.
Showering and cleansing
I generally recommend waiting until the same day is over, then showering with lukewarm water. Keep your cleanser gentle and quick. No exfoliating gloves, no scrubs, and no body wash loaded with strong acids or fragrance. Pat dry. Rubbing with a towel can feel fine in the moment and then leave you irritated later.
Sweat, friction, and Fircrest weather
For the first 24 to 48 hours, avoid heavy sweating if you can. If you commute on SR-16 or you’re walking around in damp weather, wear quick-dry layers so your back isn’t sitting in moisture. And skip anything that rubs. Tight sports bras, backpack straps, or a fitted top can cause more redness than people expect.
- Do: loose, breathable clothing and clean sheets.
- Don’t: pick at bumps or flakes, even if you’re tempted.
- Do: keep hair products (conditioner, oils) from running down your back.
Day 3 to Day 7: the habits that keep your Back Glow smooth
Most people feel good by day 3, and that’s exactly when overdoing it can backfire. Your back might feel extra smooth and you’ll want to keep scrubbing. Hold off. Let the skin settle so you keep that soft finish instead of chasing it with more exfoliation.
Sun and SPF (this matters more than people think)
Once any redness has calmed down, apply a broad-spectrum SPF on any exposed skin. And for at least 72 hours, avoid direct sun on the treated area when possible. Freshly exfoliated skin can mark more easily, especially if you already deal with post-breakout discoloration.
What to avoid until you feel fully normal again
Skip retinoids, strong acids, and any kind of body peel on your back until you’re fully calm. No scrubs. No dry brushing at home right away. If you’re a parent or you’re running between work, school drop-offs, and weekend errands, the good news is this aftercare is low maintenance. Gentle wash, light moisture, and less friction is usually enough.
A simple plan: If you want movement, wait until after the 72-hour window, then start with a walk. Chambers Bay and Point Defiance are great choices once your skin is calm and you’re not sweating heavily.
Products I actually want you using after Back Glow (and what to keep out of the shower)
After Back Glow, your routine should feel boring in the best way. Think gentle and fragrance-free. That’s how you protect the smoothness we worked for during the dry brush and sugar scrub portion of your service.
Use
- A gentle, non-scrub cleanser (no exfoliating beads, no rough mitts).
- A lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer. Apply a thin layer, especially if you feel dry or tight.
- Clean, breathable clothing. Quick-dry fabrics help a lot in Fircrest’s damp season.
Avoid (for at least 72 hours)
- Scrubs, dry brushing, and strong body peels.
- Retinoids and strong acids on the treated area.
- Heavy fragrance, including perfume sprayed directly on your back.
And a quick note if you found me while searching for facials near me, a facial spa near me, or even waxing near me: the same idea applies across skincare. Calm skin holds results longer than irritated skin. If you also do sugaring near me searches and book regularly, you’ll recognize that gentle aftercare makes everything easier.
When I want you to reach out to Spa Apsara (and what’s usually normal)
A little pinkness, mild warmth, or light sensitivity right after your Back Glow can be normal, especially if you’re prone to dryness or you’ve been using active products recently. What I don’t want you doing is waiting it out if something feels off.
Contact me for an urgent check if you have persistent swelling, severe burning, spreading redness, or oozing.

Back Glow Aftercare FAQs I get all the time
How long should I wait to shower after a Back Glow?
I recommend waiting until later the same day, then keeping your shower lukewarm. Avoid hot water on your back for the first 48 to 72 hours, and skip scrubbing tools.
Can I exercise or go to the gym after a Back Glow?
I suggest skipping intense workouts for 24 to 48 hours, and avoiding heavy sweating for up to 72 hours. Sweat plus friction is a common trigger for irritation and bumps on freshly exfoliated skin.
Will deodorant or perfume irritate my skin after Back Glow?
Perfume can be irritating if it’s sprayed directly on your back right after treatment. For the first few days, keep fragrance off the treated area and stick with gentle, fragrance-free skincare where your Back Glow was done.
When is it safe to go swimming or use a hot tub after this treatment?
Give it at least 72 hours before swimming or using a hot tub. Chlorine, heat, and shared water can irritate freshly exfoliated skin and raise the chance of bumps.
What products should I use (or avoid) on my back in the week after Back Glow?
Use a gentle cleanser and a lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer. Avoid scrubs, dry brushing, retinoids, and strong acids until your skin feels fully calm. If you’re unsure about a product you already own, bring it in or message me and I’ll help you sort it out.
If you found me while searching for lash extensions near me, lash services near me, lash lifts near me, lash tints near me, or waxing, you’re in the right place. I keep aftercare straightforward across all services so you can keep your results without adding extra work to your week.
